OLD TIME RIO GRANDE LAPELED COWBOY VEST

All of the fabric used in the designing of the vest is 100% WOOL, with lining and back in Cotton (NO SYNTHETIC MATERIALS), and pre-washed- see patterns below. Dry cleaning is recommended so your OLD TIME LAPELED RIO GRANDE  COWBOY VEST keeps its shape. EVERYTHING on this vest is hand sewn…, all the way from the buttons the to toughness of the Pockets.

Since all of the vests are custom made one at a time, Vest reproductions and PERSONAL DESIGNS are available for an extra fee. In this instance, personal consultation is necessary and payment will be through LONGHORN HATTERS MERCHANT ACCOUNT.

The extra fee would include special fabrics, custom patterns, personal consultation with LONGHORN HATTERS and then personally relaying this information to the personal designer and seamstress. All material and patterns are based upon availability.

OLD TIME RIO GRANDE LAPELED COWBOY VEST MATERIAL SAMPLES

There is a choice of six(6) material pattern selections. Patterns were chosen very carefully from actual samples of the period of the 1880 OLD WEST.
 

(1) Black/Gray pin stripe

(2) Square pin Stripe Greenish-Brown
 

(3) Dark Blue Herringbone

(4) Multi Colored Pin Stripe (Bold)
 

(5) Colored Pin Stripe (Brownish tan)

Because of the complexity of this Custom Vest, upon ordering, you will receive a personal Email and call from Don Livingston's LONGHORN HATTERS confirming your order working out all specs before consigning the OLD TIME RIO GRAND COWBOY LAPELED VEST to the seamstress. At this time, all construction will be discussed (below) RE: Vest Patterns, Vest Collar choice, Bottom cut, Number of buttons, and Number of pockets  for your CUSTOM built Vest to see that your design is intact.

HOW TO MEASURE FOR A VEST

 Precise measurements are important.

 TAKING A TAPE MEASURE WITH SHIRT ON,

 1) Measure the Chest around the fullest part of the chest and under the arms.

2) Then the fullest part of the middle

3) Center of the neck to the bottom of the back of the vest.

4) Center of the shoulder down the front of the body where you want the bottom of the front of the Vest to stop. (normally a little past belt line).

 There should be a slight slant from back down to front. (looking at the Vest from the side)

 You can measure a Vest that fits you as well. Any thing so that the first time is precise.

Cowgirl Sizes: XS fits 6-8; S fits 10-12; M fits 14-16; L fits 18-20; XL fits 22-24

Who puts your Custom Rio Grande Vest together?
 

Don Livingston's LONGHORN HATTERS is proud to announce the association of Terry Heffner, Master Seamstress, to help in the design of the new COWBOY FIXIN'S OLD TIME RIO GRANDE LAPELED COWBOY VESTS to be featured on the LONGHORN HATTERS Web Site, and on property store sales.

Mrs Heffner has sewed for people for over 30 years starting in middle school, and eventually added Custom Civil War and Old West clothing items about 20 years ago to her skills. She says, “Now that there are fabrics out there from the Smithsonian, customers can almost be taken back to the Old West with the designs.

Mrs Heffner sews from period correct patterns, sewing the clothes as closely to the original designs as possible. She says, “If a customer calls for something different from the patterns I am working with, it can be worked out, but working within the original patterns is the correct way, and is what I do. For example, Long sleeves on ladies blouses were standard during the Civil War, and Old West Periods, unless they would want short sleeves.”

She goes on to say, “I Started with the Civil War things, and still sew for a few people that play with that period. Re enactors take what they do very seriously, so the clothing HAS to be right. From there, I eventually got involved with more Old West Clothing because of the vast amount of design capabilities.”

She also studies shows like the former HBO series, “Deadwood“, as well as others, such as “Tombstone”, and has, through years of experience, developed the ability to watch, and create designs from the clothing off the shows. “Men and women like that because after seeing it on T.V., or film, they have a perfect reproduction.”

“The best thing about the whole idea of “THE OLD WEST”, or other period clothing designs, are the people I meet. They are all a lot of fun, and have enjoyed my creations for many years.”

Mrs Heffner works with the hard to fit guy or gal. She says, “I can help them out…..,some times it takes a couple of try's, but it will happen.”

The above is called heart, and a love for what one does, so if it’s a planned Vest, or one that matches a movie star, this talented Wardrobe Designer can build it.

When one consigns LONGHORN HATTERS for one of the six featured Custom Vests, it should be noted that there is a limited amount of “each piece”, so duplication is kept to a bear minimum.

In addition to the Custom Vests and other Old West Period Clothing, it should also be noted that Mrs Heffner also designs shirts, Vests, Coats, and Pants stitch by stitch for all Clint Eastwood film designed hats located in the HAT 2 SECTION of the site. "THE PALE RIDER FROCK COAT" has been a very successful addition to LONGHORN HATTERS fleet of Custom Designed creations from Mrs Heffner.
